City of Tampa’s September edition of “Spotlight” includes an ENCORE! development update. Taking center stage is The Trio, the second of four multi-family buildings at ENCORE!, as these 141 residences with 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom floor plans move toward an April 2014 completion.
Once upon a time, Central Avenue was a thriving Black business district in Tampa, Florida. But, during the late 1960s, a federally funded program called Urban Renewal would change the area forever. Much of Central Avenue was demolished to make room for the Construction of Interstate 4 and Interstate 275. This left many of the business owners in the district with no alternative but to relocate.
But now, ENCORE!®, a multi-income, multi-generation mixed use neighborhood looks to reclaim the area’s glorious past. Spotlight’s Latoya Carter has the story.
